Let Me Die In Southern California by The Voyces

Southern Californa based The Voyces will be releasing a new album titled Let Me Die In Southern California on September 28th. A while ago the band moved to NYC and recently moved back to SoCal — a fact that definitely comes through on the title track presented below. It seems to have a Eagle-esque feel to it with more edge – in fact Hotel California comes to mind which isn’t a bad thing (unless you’re the Dude) as summer fades here on the East Coast.

Repetition by The Willowz

The Willowz are an Orange County California based four piece garage rock band. You might have heard some of their music in Michel Gondry’s films (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and The Science Of Sleep). The song Repetition is a blast. Great vocals and guitar work. Enjoy.

Get It Together by Beastie Boys & Q-Tip (remix)

Ever hit random on your entire music library and just play whatever comes up? Here’s a track that deserves to go back into heavy rotation. It’s a remix of the track “Get It Together” that originally appeared on Ill Communication. This version only appeared on a compilation album called Buckwild Is Diggin’ in the Crates. Enjoy.

Machine by Lions

The very last thing on my bucket list is to punch a lion in the face — not one of these Lions mind you, a real lion. I would never want to punch anyone from the band Lions in the face unless they stopped making great music and it seems like that’s just not going to happen anytime soon.

Lions were formed in 2005 down in Austin, TX. Their sound has been compared a lot with the likes of early Soundgarden. The song named Machine featured below is a cut off their first full length album titled No Generation.

You Can’t Break a Heart and Have it by Frank Black

Frank Black of Pixies fame has never stopped churning out music and every once in a while he really nails it. You Can’t Break a Heart and Have it is the 9th track from the album Bluefinger. The song is actually a Herman Brood cover and was recently featured on the soundtrack of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

On a somewhat related note, the Pixies are on tour in November, don’t miss!

Prizefighter by Eels

The Eels have been around for quite a while (almost 15 years). During that time they’ve released seven full-length albums. While there are some gems to be found scattered throughout their catalog (like Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues), whole albums can wind up being somewhat forgettable unless you’re a rabid fan.

That being said, the Eels seem to have finally hit stride with their latest release Hombre Lobo. Prizefighter is the first track. With a stripped down guitar sound, solid drums, and a good hook, Prizefighter is a great song.
